A is the second most common starting letter for five-letter words, and a confirmed opening A is a strong foothold. Here's a working list and how to use it.
Common A-words
- ARISE, AROSE, ALERT, ALTER, AMBER
- APPLE, AMPLE, ANGEL, ANGLE, ARENA
- ADOPT, ADORE, ABODE, AZURE
- AUDIO, AGILE, ALIVE, ALONE
What to test next
Many A-words place a second vowel late (ARISE, ADOBE) or a consonant blend early (ANGLE, AMBLE). After the A, probe R, L, N and a second vowel — they appear in a large share of A-words.
Beware look-alikes
ALTER and ALERT use the same letters; ANGLE and ANGEL too. When you're down to a couple of anagrams, a single well-chosen guess that splits them is worth more than guessing one and hoping.
