Double letters are a classic blind spot. When your clues seem to contradict each other, the answer is often repeating a letter you've only accounted for once.
Common doubles
- HELLO, JELLY, BELLY, ALLEY — double L
- BERRY, SORRY, MERRY, FERRY — double R
- HAPPY, PUPPY, POPPY — double P
- GREEN, SLEEP, CHEER, FREED — double E
Spotting the signal
In Wordle, a letter can come back grey in one slot and green in another — proof it appears more than once. In count games, an unexpected jump or stall in the numbers can hint at a repeat.
Test it deliberately
When you suspect a double but aren't sure which letter, guess a word that doubles your most likely candidate. The result confirms or rules it out in one move.
