Most lost Wordle games come down to a few avoidable habits. Fix these and your win rate climbs without any clever tricks.
1. Ignoring yellow tiles
A yellow letter is in the word — you just have the position wrong. Every later guess must include it somewhere new. Dropping a yellow letter is the single most common way players lose.
2. Forgetting double letters
Words like SPEED, ABBEY and MELEE repeat a letter. If your clues stop making sense, ask whether the answer doubles up.
3. Wasting a guess when you're behind
On guess five with no clear answer, don't play a long shot. Play a word that tests the letters you still haven't ruled out.
- 4. Reusing grey letters out of habit
- 5. Locking a green letter, then accidentally moving it
- 6. Tunnel-visioning on one answer instead of listing all options
- 7. Rushing — read the whole grid before you type
None of these require talent to fix. Slow down for ten seconds before each guess and most of them disappear.
