Vowel Strategy: Placing A, E, I, O and U in Word Games — PuzzleDaily

Every English word is built around its vowels. Find them early and the consonants tend to fall into place around them.

Test vowels first

A word like AUDIO or OUIJA packs four vowels into one guess. Even if it feels like a waste, knowing which vowels are present and where they sit massively narrows the field.

Position is half the battle

Knowing the answer contains an E is useful; knowing the E is in the second slot is decisive. Pay as much attention to where a vowel lands as to whether it appears at all.

  • E is by far the most common vowel — expect it often
  • Many words have two vowels; some have three
  • Y sometimes acts as a vowel — don't forget it

Don't overspend

One vowel-heavy guess is plenty. After that, switch back to consonants — a word can't be all vowels, and your remaining guesses need to nail down the frame.

Next time you're stuck, ask which vowels you still haven't placed. The answer is usually hiding in a gap you haven't tested.
