Most advice tells you to find the answer. But on tricky days, the faster route is the opposite: systematically rule out wrong words until only the answer remains.
Think in candidates
After a couple of guesses, hold the set of words that still fit every clue in your head. Your job isn't to guess the answer — it's to shrink that set as fast as possible.
Test letters, not words
- Pick a guess that splits the remaining candidates
- Favour letters that appear in half your options
- Each guess should roughly halve what's left
When elimination shines
It's most powerful with big word families — _ATCH, _OUND, _IGHT. Instead of guessing MATCH, BATCH, LATCH in turn, play one word testing M, B and L together and let the result name the answer.
